Self-trained, photographer Jake Terrey grew up on a small island on Sydney’s northern beaches, and cut his teeth photographing the weekly wooden yacht races that his father took part in. He was soon initiated in the fashion industry, where he has since become a key player in a generation forging new terrain. With a considered and contemplative style, Jake’s fashion work features artful composition and dynamic movement, but also a strong sense of intimacy.
Jake captures humanity in every shot – his fascination with catching that moment of oblivion and abandon as the shutter releases, means that his work can as easily be described as portraiture or fashion. He showcases both the fantasy of an outfit as well as a truth in the wearer. His unique style and easy professionalism have garnered him a lengthy client list given his relative youth: including Vanity Fair US, Vogue Australia, Vogue Spain, Vogue Homme HK, Cero NYC, Puss Puss, GQ Australia, GQ Italia, GQ Japan, Harpers Bazaar US, Elle US, Marie Claire, Russh, T Magazine Australia, Calvin Klein, RM Williams, Matches, Sony Music, Sir The Label, Common Hours, Paspaley, Alinka.
His editorial outlets have included GQ and Denizen – and he currently has a regular contributing relationship with Australian Vogue. Jake’s love for travel is exhibited in his personal work, where his eye for proportion and detail is evident in his stunning monochrome imagery of landscapes, structure and texture.
